Parliamentary Commissioner for the Environment, Dr Jan Wright, has voiced concerns over mining’s special access rights to Department of Conservation land in her latest report, Making difficult decisions: Mining the conservation estate.
Note: The Land and Water Forum report is available at www.landandwater.org.nz A comprehensive report by the Land and Water Forum on the management of freshwater in New Zealand has been welcomed today by Environment Minister Nick Smith and Agriculture Minister David Carter.
Federated Farmers believes the Land and Water Forum report is just that, a report and its recommendations to Government, do not set in stone any future policy or actions.
“Overall, the Land and Water Forum report is a good outcome and is a step change in trying to overcome the confrontational and expensive way water has been managed up to now,” said Forest & Bird Advocacy Manager Kevin Hackwell, one of the trustees of the LWF.
