A Job in Patumahoe
A short case study from Designer Gardens Auckland
This job in Patumahoe was built for a couple with three young children, and a limited budget, who wanted a substantial living space outside, which was not just plain, “poured” concrete. We decided to use 600mm X 600mm textured pavers in charcoal colour. The area was quite large, roughly 70 square metres, giving them plenty of all weather playing space for the children and also a generous entertaining area.
In all, the project took only 6 days with two workers from preparation to finish in order to achieve the extended living area of the house.
For a young couple with a new family it is difficult to afford landscaping and a new house in a single bite, so often a project must be divided into phases.
The construction of a pergola achieved an immediate vertical feature providing a vehicle for future planting to grow over. This combined with peripheral planting around the paving will soften the hard, straight edges and link the patio with the rest of the garden.
Carrying out a project like this in phases makes it more achievable for a wider range of people.
